The 11th CONFERENCE OF THE BALKAN AND EURO-MEDITERREAN NETWORK OF THE COUNCILS FOR THE JUDICIARY

The 11th Conference of the Balkan and Euro-Mediterranean Network of Councils for the Judiciary (BEMNCJ) was hosted by the Superior Council of Magistracy of Italy and took place in Rome on 13-14th of June 2016.

The two main topics of the conference were the „Internal independence of the Judges and Prosecutors as a factor of increasing efficiency in the Judiciary” and „The role of media in the independence of the Judiciary”

On the Plenary was present Mr. Gjin Gjoni, the President of the Network, the representatives of the High Council of Justice of Albania, the Superior Council of Magistracy of Italy, the Supreme Judicial Council of Bulgaria, the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors of Turkey, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Superior Council of Magistracy of the Republic of Moldova, the Judicial Council of Montenegro, Kosovo Judicial Council, National Judicial Council of Hungary, National Office for the Judiciary of Hungary.

The Plenary was also honored by the presence of senior representatives of the Italian judiciary and the Hungarian ambassador to Rome and the attendance of the representatives of the Judicial Councils of Greece, the Judicial Council of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the High Court Council of the Republic of Serbia and the State Prosecutorial Council of the Republic of Serbia, who have expressed their intentions to participate as a member in the Network in the near future.

On the Plenary the members adopted recommendations regarding to the topics, decided about the re-election of Mr. Gjin Gjoni as a president of the Network and also decided about the term of the presidency which will be two years starting from 2017. There were also decisions about the official logo, the Annual Working Plan of 2016-2017 of the Network and on the topics of the next year Plenary which will be held in Bulgaria.

The next year topics are the following:

1./ Impartiality and the Code of Ethics.

2./ The role of the the Councils of the Judiciary in the fight against terrorism and the security of the judges.
